We have a loft home that is ideal for an visiting academic, artist, writer, an individual or a couple – we find it ideal as a couple and we both work from home. It's an open loft, and is split into a sitting area at the entry, a living room/bookcases area, a dining and kitchen area, an artist studio-work from home set up, a writing desk-work from home set up, and a lofted sleep area. It has 10.5-foot ceilings, a walk-in closet and laundry/storage area under the loft, and a bathroom with shower. The living room has two couches, both open up as beds for overnight visitors. Easy to clean cement floors, with rugs in some areas.
The kitchen is very well-designed, with plenty of counter space, cupboards, double farmhouse sink, and a rolling kitchen island cart with butcher block top and additional storage space below. Appliances include a gas stove, full-size fridge, microwave, and dishwasher. We are avid cooks, and will leave some of the essential kitchen tools and plates, glasses, and more for tenants’ use.
The artist work space has a large sitting desk with ergonomic office chair, a standing desk, a work table, and shelving space. The writing space has a desk, with ergonomic office chair, with room to store a bicycle or 2.
This is a great place, at a great price for the Bay Area, for someone that is here for a term or two. The owners/landlords are easygoing, not a rental management company, and have authorized the sublet. The subtenant will fill an application and have a sublease agreement with the landlords, who may run a credit check or want to see a pay stub. The subtenant will pay them rent/utilities directly, and contact them if there’s any problems at all with the home (anything broken or leaking) because they will fix it right away.
We are clean, and take care of our home and belongings, and want someone who does that too, for their own comfort and to avoid bugs or critters or damages. We have cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, an air-filter vacuum cleaner, loads of kitchen towels, rags, bathroom towels, etc for your use.
Our street is a quiet dead end in a very urban neighborhood, with good neighbors and lots of parking, a few blocks from a wide range of stores (Safeway, Home Depot, Ikea, Nordstrom’s Rack, Pet Club and many more), restaurants, and bars within walking distance. It is a 5 to 10 minute drive to the Bay Bridge or 580; a 5 minute drive or bike ride or 20 minute walk to MacArthur BART; and very near 40th St, where one can catch Emeryville’s free shuttle bus to the BART station, and/or Berkeley Bowl, Trader Joe’s, the Public Market, and the Emeryville Marina.
Dates are negotiable, there is a possibility to extend or assume a longer or permanent tenancy beyond those dates. The owner pays gas, water, garbage. Tenant pays electricity, approx. $125/month + wifi $60/month. Our home has a large gas heater, so you won't be paying for heat - and it is never hot enough here for an air conditioner. We have no outdoor space, but there's parks nearby including the Marina, and no pets are allowed.
